Pte. 14462 Arthur Higginson

14462 Private Arthur Higginson was born in 1895 in Harriseahead, on the 1901 and 1911 census he lived with his grandparents Thomas and Emily and their daughter Hannah Higginson at 11 High Street, Harriseahead, Staffordshire. Arthur’s occupation was a Collier Waggoner (lad) he worked underground, his grandfather was a Coal miner Hewer, and they may have both worked at the same colliery.

There are no surviving service records for Arthur; all we know is that he enlisted in Burslem in 1915 and that he went to France on the 25th August 1915, he was killed on the 19th November 1916 age 21 years, his body was never found, he is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
