76877 Private Arnold Hargreaves Whittaker was born on 23^rd September 1899, he was one of two children to Thomas & Gertrude Ada Whittaker, and Arnold’s father’s occupation was a Platelayer on the Railway. On the 1901 census Arnold and his family lived in Cinderhill. Arnold was unmarried.

Arnold enlisted in Congleton after 1916, there are no surviving Military records for him and his Medal Index Card doesn’t give a lot of details, only that he was entitled to the Victory Medal and the British War Medal, he was killed on the 23^rd October 1918 age 19, he is buried in Amerval Communal Cemetery extension, Solesmes.
