55831 Private Edward Kitchen was born in Retford,
Nottinghamshire in 1899; he was one of four children (only son) to Edward
and Eliza Kitchen. Edward’s father was a railway man and his mother died
around 1910. On the 1911 census Edward with his father and three sisters
lived with his grandmother at 109
Whinney Moor Lane, Retford.
Edward enlisted in Retford after 1916,
there are no surviving Military Service records for him and his Medal
Index Card doesn’t give us any information, only his Regiment, Regimental
number and the medal entitlement. Not long after Edward enlisted his father
and sisters moved to 14 Alderhay
Lane, Rookery, Mow Cop, this is the contact
address the Commonwealth War Graves Commission had for them in the 1920’s. |
