7582 Private Frederick William Price

7582 Private Frederick William Price was born in 1889 in Newchapel, Staffordshire, son of Joseph and Dinah Price, brother to Mary J Price. Frederick married Ruth Barlow Hughes in 1911 in Congleton; they had one known daughter Ella Price born in 1911.

Ruth and Ella were born in Mow Cop. Frederick’s occupation was a Coal miner loader (below ground) on the 1911 census he was living with his uncle George Kickham in Chapel Lane, Harriseahead, whilst his new wife and baby were living with Ruth’s uncle Thomas Hughes in Station Road, Mow Cop.

 

There are no surviving service records for Frederick; all we know is that he enlisted in Tunstall in 1914/15 and that he went to France on the 3rd May 1915, sometime between May 1915 and August 1915 he served in Belgium, he was killed on the 18th August 1915, his body was never found, he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
