22349 Private Harry Birtles was born
in 1893 in Odd Rode, he was christened in All Saints Church, Odd Rode on the
19th October 1893, and he was the son of Peter and Alethea
Birtles of Cinder Hill, Scholar Green. Harry’s occupation
was Second Footman to the Duke of Northumberland; he worked and lived in Alnwick
Castle.
There are no surviving service records for Harry; all we know is
that he enlisted in Alnwick in 1915 and that he
went to France on the 9th
December 1915, he was killed on the 11th November 1918 in France, his body
was never found, he is remembered on panel 3 on the Vis-En-Artois
Memorial. |
