29248 2/LT Shadrach Hollinshead

29248 2/LT Shadrach Hollinshead was born in 1894 in Kidsgrove, he was one of three children to Mark and Martha Ann Hollinshead of 5 Galley’s Bank, Kidsgrove, Shadrach’s occupation was a machine clerk, he was unmarried.

 

There are no surviving service records for Shadrach, so we have no details or dates of where and when he enlisted, but from his Medal Index Card, we know he was a Sergeant before being promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, the card also tells us he must have signed up after 1915, as he was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War.

Shadrach was killed in action on the 27th March 1918, his body was never found as he is remembered on panel 6, Arras Memorial, Belgium.

 

Miss P Hollinshead, Shadrach’s younger sister received his medals in 1922, the address they were posted to was Oake & Hulme, High Street, Tunstall.
