2/LT (second Lieutenant) Sydney Bowler was born in 1890 in Odd
Rode, he was christened on the 2nd October 1890 in All Saints Church,
Odd Rode, he was one of seven children to John Charles
and Elizabeth Bowler (nee Leese), John and Elizabeth married in 1876 in St Johns Church,
Buglawton. Sydney’s
father was a Farmer and in 1911 the family lived at Brick House Farm, Scholar
Green.
Sydney’s occupation
was an assistant teacher and he was unmarried.
There are no surviving service records for Sydney so we have no
details of when or where he enlisted or when he went to France; the only survive
records is his Medal Index Card, we do know that he was killed on 21st
October 1917 in Belgium age 27 years and that he is buried in Gwalia Cemetery, Belgium. |
