17750 Pte. William Bloor

17750 Private William Bloor was born in 1896 in Middlewich, eldest son of John George & Annie Bloor (nee Barnett) of Low Street, Rode Heath. William had 2 sisters Beatrice and Edith and 1 brother John, his occupation was a Boatman and he worked for the Shropshire Union Canal Company, he started working on the boats at the age of 14 years, he was unmarried.

 

William enlisted on 18/06/1915 in Stoke-on-Trent. Part of his Military Service Records is as follows:

Home 18/06/1915 – 22/06/1915 (Home means in Britain), there is no date when he embarked for Mesopotamia, all we know is that he was killed on the 29th March 1917 and that his body was never found, he is remembered on Panel 34 on the Basra Memorial, Iraq. William’s medals were sent to his mother in 1921.
